How we research prices
Clear Cost Guide is edited by Michael Schramm at tuxsc UG (haftungsbeschränkt), Reichenbach an der Fils, Germany. Our aim is simple: help US homeowners judge whether a contractor quote is realistic before they sign it.
Where the numbers come from
Every guide compares at least two or three published cost guides, such as HomeGuide, HomeAdvisor and Bob Vila, and cites each one at the bottom of the page. These publishers collect project costs from customers and contractors. We read the figures directly from their pages and do not invent or estimate prices from general knowledge.
How we compare sources
- We show the spread. When sources disagree, we publish both ranges and explain likely reasons, such as survey averages versus full-frame installs.
- We check independence. Several cost sites reuse the same underlying data, so we do not count repeated figures as extra confirmation.
- We add a quote check. Each guide ends with a practical test for whether a contractor quote is in a normal range, and what to ask for in writing.
Calculators
Our calculators on the roof, window and AC repair guides apply the published per-unit ranges to your inputs. Results are planning ranges, not quotes. Local labor rates, access, permits and the condition of your home can move the final price.
Updates and corrections
Each guide shows its last update month. We review guides on an ongoing basis and revise them as source data changes. Spotted an error? Write to hello@clearcostguide.com. We check every correction and fix confirmed errors.
Independence
We do not sell leads, accept payment for placement or publish sponsored price ranges. The site may show advertising, which does not influence what we write. See our privacy policy and legal notice.
Our guides are general information and no substitute for a written quote from a licensed local contractor.
